Refinement of the MEDUSA icon, part of the rebranding of the VERSACE identity by SAVVY STUDIO.

The reinterpretation is modeled after the bronze head on the entry doors of Versace’s Palazzo in Milan, and it references classical and neoclassical sources. “Gianni Versace drew sustenance from the ageless brilliance of mythology and he brought the luminosity of those myths into everyday life.

In the most ancient representations, Medusa was depicted with golden wings, bronze hands, round face covered with snake scales. In later versions of the myth, Medusa was a beautiful maiden, whose hair was turned into snakes by the goddess Minerva.

“The Medusa is an allegory for the power of the gaze: like the Medusa, wrote Jean Clair, painters, sculptors, and artists cast their gaze onto the world and freeze its appearance”.
